WASHINGTON, DC – El Tiempo Latino, the area’s largest Spanish newspaper, announced today that on June 26, 2017 it will host the inaugural Powermeter 100 in Washington, an event that will honor 100 individuals most influential for Hispanic communities in DC, Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland.

Javier Marin, new publisher/CEO of El Tiempo Latino, said the Powermeter 100 event will create a night of networking for the leaders, business owners, politicians and influentials connected to the Hispanic community. Mr. Marin, who is also publisher of El Planeta, the largest Spanish news organization in Greater Boston, has hosted spectacular Powermeter 100 events there for the past eleven years.

“At a time when there is too much talk about what divides us, Powermeter 100 events provide opportunities to celebrate the people who are bridging the divides, and enhancing the quality of life for residents of Hispanic communities,” Mr. Marin said. “Our Powermeter 100 events honor anyone (of any color) who is having a positive impact in our communities.”

The DC Powermeter 100 event will be held at the Washington Post Live Center, 1301 K. Street, NW, Washington, DC.

One key sponsor is the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, a highly-respected organization that identifies, inspires, prepares and positions Latino leaders in the classroom, community and workforce. El Tiempo Latino is urging community residents and officials to “nominate someone exceptional” for a spot on the Powermeter 100 by going to www.eltiempolatino.com/powermeter.

Mr. Marin, who purchased El Tiempo Latino in December from the Washington Post, reiterated that Powermeter 100 events “bring people together” so they can learn more about each other, as well as raise the awareness of vibrant Latino communities, with consumer purchasing power that is frequently underestimated. “With networking and communications, we can help build stronger bridges between Hispanic communities and corporate and political power structures,” he said. “We know they value our market, and our votes. We want to foster better relationships.”

Last year alone, the Boston Powermeter 100 honored influentials and community and civic leaders such as Boston Archbishop Sean O’Malley; Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warner and Ed Markey; retired Red Sox star David Ortiz; as well as many civic and community leaders like Manny Lopez, of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center; Ines Palmarin, of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation; and Jose Masso, Policy Director of Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport).

Moreover, the events also attract an A-List of corporate sponsors, including State Street Bank, John Hancock, STAPLES, Tufts Health Plan, Eastern Bank, Wynn Resorts and Copa Airlines. Like El Planeta, Mr. Marin said El Tiempo Latino will publish a special section in June with profiles of the Powermeter 100 members. Potential sponsors of the event can go to www.eltiempolatino.com/powermeter for more information.

Mr. Marin said he looks forward to elevating El Tiempo Latino to be a prime local Spanish news organization for the DC area. El Tiempo Latino has published a weekly print newspaper since 1991, and also has an online e-Daily newsletter, and its new website: www.eltiempolatino.com.
