Joseline A. Peña-Melnyk was born in the Dominican Republic. She became the first in her family to graduate from college, later earning a law degree. She was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2006 and subsequently reelected in 2010, 2014, and 2018. She serves as Vice Chair of the Health and Government Operations Committee. The Delegate is widely recognized for her fierce commitment to healthy families, affordable housing, educational opportunities, racial justice, and clean water and air. She was instrumental in launching the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus in 2013 and continues to serve on its Executive Committee.
